The Township of Esquimalt is pleased to announce Scott Hartman as its new Director of Parks and Recreation. On June 15, 2009, Scott Hartman will begin his post as Director of Parks and Recreation and will be presented at the Monday night’s regular meeting of Council. The newest member of Esquimalt’s senior management team is an experienced manager and consultant in the areas of sports, recreation, culture, tourism and economic development.

“This is a very exciting year for Esquimalt Parks and Recreation. We are waiting to hear back on the stimulus funding applications that were made on upgrading the Archie Browning Sports Centre and for an all accessible playground in Memorial Park. Council also established a committee to review the role of food services in Esquimalt. The new Director of Parks and Recreation will play an integral role in leading these projects and in improving recreational programs and services for the community and user groups,“ says Mayor Barb Desjardins.

Scott Hartman has over seven years of experience managing in a local government recreational setting with the City of Kamloops and the Regional District of Comox-Strathcona. Most recently Hartman has been working as a consultant on the opening of the new Langley Events Centre. Hartman’s accomplishments have included enhancing the operations of sports and recreation facilities, improving the delivery of municipal services, and the promotion of sports tourism.
