Esquimalt’s two new pool slides have been installed, the ribbon has been cut, and Mayor Barb Desjardins is excited to share the news about this latest addition to the Esquimalt Recreation Centre.

“These new pool slides are a great enhancement to Esquimalt’s child and youth friendly programs and swims,” said Mayor Desjardins at the ribbon-cutting ceremony held on December 23rd at the Esquimalt Pool.

The Esquimalt pool re-opened from its annual maintenance closure on December 22nd with the new additions; a slide for toddlers in its interactive lifestyle pool and a 7 foot slide in the main pool. The purchase and installation of the slides were a result of fundraising efforts from the annual Mayor and Friends of Esquimalt Golf Tournament. Every spring, Esquimalt organizes a golf tournament to raise money for new recreation equipment. The ribbon-cutting honour went to Sandy Rozon, a long-standing fundraising committee member.

Mayor Barb Desjardins also spoke about the pools’ strengths, “Esquimalt Pool boasts the warmest main pool in Greater Victoria, averaging 86 degrees. The combination of the pools’ temperature and accessibility has made our pool popular for families to play and for individuals with mobility challenges to exercise. Also, we use a salt water pool filtration system.”

The public do not have to wait until the New Year to try out the new slides. The Esquimalt Recreation Centre will be open over the holiday season. The pool will be open this Thursday for its Christmas Day swim from 1:30 – 4:00 pm and admission is only $2.
