Individual and Family Preparedness
The Provincial Emergency Program lists 57 natural or man made hazards we might be subject to in British Columbia. This 2 hour sessions will walk you through assessing the risks, making a plan and preparing a kit to help you sustain yourself and family in a disaster. Being better prepared means you will recover and resume normal living quicker following a catastrophic event.

Dates:
Saturday May 5, 10:00am - noon

Disaster First Aid
This 6 hour course is comprised of two 3 hour hands-on sessions. You will learn first aid in a disaster. Practical skills will be taught and practiced using basic supplies. Learn how to triage in a mass casualty situation. Practice splinting a broken limb. Other useful first aid tips and techniques you can use to take care of your loved ones following a disaster when usual and familiar medical aid might be delayed or not available.

Saturday May 12  10:00am-1:00pm (Part I)
and
Saturday May 26  10:00am-1:00pm (Part II)

Light Urban Search and Rescue (LUSAR)
Following a seismic event (earthquake) or other major disaster, usual rescue personnel may be delayed or prevented from getting to your neighbourhood to effect search and/or rescue in home structures. As part of your preparedness plans, this 2 part session will help you learn to spot signs if a building is 'unsafe' to enter following a collapse. Learn how to form a search team, how to mount the search, building search techniques and tips for staying safe while conducting a search operation. We will also discuss how to bring someone out safely.

This 2 part session will be comprised of one session in lecture, and theory discussion with a second session of 'hands on' practical skills where we will mount an actual search and rescue in an abandoned building to use the skills and to practice the theory learned in the previous session.

Part 1. Saturday June 2, 9:00am to noon
and
Part 2. Saturday June 9, 9:00am to noon

In order to participate in the LUSAR sessions, particpants must have attended the Preparedness and Disaster First Aid sessions.
