Property Tax
Payment
Property taxes are due and payable on the first business day in July each year.
A penalty of 10% is applied to any unpaid current year taxes at the close of business on the due date.
Property taxes can be paid:
In person at the Municipal Hall (1229 Esquimalt Road)
- by cash, money order, cheque, bank draft, or debit card (Interac)
- credit cards are not accepted
Using the drop box outside the Municipal Hall (1229 Esquimalt Road)
- open 24 hours a day for non-cash payments
By mail (Township of Esquimalt, 1229 Esquimalt Road, Esquimalt BC V9A 3P1)
- your payment must be received by the Finance Department by 4:30 p.m. on the tax due date
- ensure that your cheque is completed correctly; cheques can be postdated for the tax due date
- ensure that your Home Owner Grant application is completed correctly
- a postmark dated after June 23rd will not guarantee your payment by the due date
Through most financial institutions
- in person
- online or through telebanking
- as part of mortgage payments
- ensure that you claim your Home Owner Grant, if you are paying your taxes through your financial institution
Please note that even if you are not paying your property taxes, if you are eligible, you still need to claim your Home Owner Grant by the tax deadline.
Property tax pre-payment
Esquimalt offers a pre-authorized payment plan for taxes, which allows taxpayer to make 10 equal month payment for property taxes. More
Post-dated cheques may also be provided to the Finance Department to pre-pay taxes.
