Acceptable containers
Garbage cans should be watertight, galvanized or rigid plastic containers with two handles and a drip-proof cover. They must not be larger than 130 litres (28 gallons) and must not exceed 25 kilograms (55 pounds) when full.
Number of containers
- Single family residences are permitted two garbage containers per two-week period.
- Businesses are allowed one garbage container per two-week period.
- Suites in apartment buildings are allowed one garbage container per two-week period.
- Duplexes are allowed four containers (i.e. two containers per household) per two- week period.
If you have more than the allowable number of containers of garbage, you may purchase garbage tickets and place one on each additional container. The tickets are $2.00 each and are sold in a sheet of four. They are available from the Municipal Hall or the Recreation Centre.
Garbage pick-up
The garbage crew will empty garbage cans on your property, as long as they are clearly visible and accessible from the road. You do not need to bring your garbage to the curb; however, doing so reduces the overall cost of garbage collection in the municipality.
Scattered or spilled garbage
It is the responsibility of property owners to keep their garbage contained and to clean it up, if it becomes scattered or spilled.
