Regional Initiatives

The Capital Regional District (CRD) is the regional government for the 13 municipalities and three electoral areas on the southern tip of Vancouver Island.

The CRD website  is a great resource for information about regional issues, such as transportation, water conservation, and waste management. Some of the initiatives that are currently being implemented include:

The Bowker Creek Initiative : The Bowker Creek Initiative is a collaboration between local governments, community groups, post-secondary institutions and private citizens, to improve the health of Bowker Creek and its watershed.

The Gorge Waterway Initiative: The Gorge Waterway Initiative (GWI) is a collaborative, community-driven group of organizations working to protect, enhance and restore the natural and cultural features of the Gorge Waterway, Portage Inlet and the surrounding watersheds. GWI members include representatives from community and environment groups, landowners, local government staff and advisory committees and recreational users, ensuring that a broad array of interests is represented.

myRecyclopedia : Wondering where to recycle a certain material? This website provides a directory of products that can be recycled in the Capital Regional District and the facilities that will accept them.

Sustainable U : A great resource on how to live sustainably in the Capital Regional District. Information is presented in fun 'course' formats such as Clean Green 101: Receipes for a cleaner way to clean and H20 101: Tap into sustainability.
